Tech-House Is Now The Most Popular Electronic Music Genre

Tech-House music fans rejoice as the newly released IMS Business Report 2022 by the International Music Summit in Ibiza states that Tech-House has risen as the most popular electronic music genre in the world, with Techno falling to second place and House music to third.

The IMS report states that Tech-House shot up in record braking Beatport sales in 2021, marking it the best-selling genre on the platform after holding the number 2 spot for over two years.

IMS also reported that Amapiano which is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa in 2012, has seen a meteoric rise “exploding globally” as of 2021 with dominance in the US, UK, and Germany.

Another interesting measurement is that despite the pandemic there is evidence of tremendous growth and demand for electronic music festivals and clubs, which were previously valued at $2.5 billion in 2020, and is up by 166% in 2021.

The industry is buzzing. I heard tons of excitement in my interviews with artists, promoters, agents and labels in the last month. Partly because, as predicted last year, electronic music is back once again.

The IMS Business Report 2022 also provides a lot of data as it relates to other segments of the industry such as DJ software and hardware equipment going up in value by 14% in 2021 to $1.2 billion for the first time in 20 years.

Vinyl record sales came back by a staggering 51% in 2021, while CD sales also saw a 9% increase for the first time in 17 years!

This was a very interesting and informative report, I recommend for you give it a read. In my opinion, larger variables should be considered to come to the number #1 global position conclusion but there is certainly no doubt that Tech-House has been here, is here to stay, and should continue to grow in popularity with all of the great and quality music that is being published!
